Series of photographs, 2012. Inkjet. 60 x 90cm print for exhibition.
AGERTU ARTEAN (in Basque, Until it appears and/or Appearing in art) is a series of photographs (60 x 90 cm final print) in which I use my body as a compositional element, generating images from bodily memory in the spaces provided by the now defunct Arteleku art centre (Donostia-SS, Gipuzkoa, Spain).
The series of photographs was completed through dialogue and interplay between my desire to create images and the vision of the photographer commissioned to capture them, Mavi Tabernero.
During a month-long artistic residency offered by Dantzagunea, I wanted to be part of the life of the centre, which at that time was undergoing a complete transformation and recovery after the flood that, in November 2011, seriously affected the building and the contents of its media library (approximately 13,000 documents lost, 4,400 magazines and part of the archive).
In times of repeated mistreatment of culture, AGERTU ARTEAN is a personal tribute to Arteleku, a key centre in the careers of so many people, facilitating, projecting and connecting the work of so many artists.
